5. Keep Electronics Boxes Out of Sight

The internet is great. You can place orders online and have them delivered to your doorstep. But be aware of those boxes, especially when they contain major electronics. To keep your home safe, make sure you don’t leave them on your porch or curb for too long after removing the content. This will let would-be criminals know that you have these items in your house.

Security experts recommend you haul the boxes to the dump or tear them down right away. If you want to take extra safety measures, you can cut them up into smaller pieces. When you’re done, hide them in your trash can.

6. Buy Light Timers

Keeping your outdoor and indoor lights on timers is a great way to give would-be criminals the impression that you’re at home (even though you’re not). Timers are pretty affordable and will automatically turn on your lights every evening at the time you choose. You just set the time you want them on or off, and that’s it. You keep your home safe without having to worry every day about that.

This is also a great idea for when you return home late at night. It would be no problem if you forgot to turn on the lights because the timer would do it for you.
