What we make
At Crafty Captain, our motto is simple: The DIY ship hasn’t sailed yet! We share practical ideas, accessible projects, and sensible guidance to help you take on tasks around your home and garden.
Our library holds about 296 projects and guides. Most of them sit under Advice, Home Upgrades, Style and Crafts, with smaller shelves for the garden, the kitchen, the bathroom and quick tips.
How our projects are made
We believe in transparent, reliable instructions. We use AI tools to help draft and structure articles. Every piece is then reviewed, edited, and fact-checked by our editorial team before publication. AI is a drafting aid here, not the final word—a person is accountable for everything we publish.
We publish under the Crafty Captain editorial team rather than individual bylines because our articles are a team product: research, drafting, editing, and fact-checking are separate steps carried out by different people. When verifying technical guidance, we follow a strict source hierarchy: the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) for tool safety and recalls, OSHA and manufacturer safety data sheets for protective gear and materials handling, university extension services for plant and soil care, and official manufacturer documentation. We do not rely on other blogs as primary sources.
Checking and corrections
Articles are reviewed whenever circumstances change—such as a recall, a safety regulation update, new research, or reader feedback. We would rather be corrected than be wrong. When resolving errors, we follow the standards in our Editorial Policy:
- Level 1 (Minor): Typos, formatting issues, or broken links are corrected quietly.
- Level 2 (Factual): Incorrect dates, names, or figures are fixed, and the article’s update date is refreshed.
- Level 3 (Significant): Errors affecting the core advice or meaning are corrected, dated, and published with an explanatory correction note.
