The Magic of Aluminum Foil: 7 Clever Hacks You Need to Try

I am here to introduce you to one of the most underappreciated household items: aluminum foil. We all use it to wrap up those leftovers, but in reality, it can do much more than that. It’s basically a magic trick that can save you time, money, and even frustration.

Aluminum has unique properties. It’s strong, conducts heat, and most importantly, it’s malleable. These qualities make it some of the best tools for all kinds of innovative solutions. It’s incredibly versatile, and once you try these hacks, you will understand that aluminum foil is much more than just a wrap for sandwiches.

I made a list of the hacks I find the most useful, even though there are also a lot of other things aluminum can do. When I first discovered it I never thought that it could sharpen my scissors or protect my plants from pests. All the easy solutions it has to offer will simply be your routine, transforming the foil into your best household item.

If you’ve already got a roll of aluminum foil in your kitchen drawer, you’re basically halfway to making life easier. Are you ready to learn more?

7 Genius Tricks with Aluminum Foil for Everyday Life

1. Brighten your jewelry

Did you know that aluminum foil is great for brightening your tarnished silver jewelry? Every woman knows how frustrating it can be to fight against the tarnished jewelry pieces. My life has completely changed since I found this hack, so I couldn’t help but start the list with this one. Who would have thought that aluminum foil could do magic for my favorite jewelry?

All you need is salt, baking soda, hot water, a bowl, and of course, aluminum foil. You should start by wrapping the bowl in the foil. Then, add enough hot water that the jewelry will completely submerge when you add it. Start with a tablespoon of baking soda and a tablespoon of salt, and mix. Last but not least, add the jewelry and let it soak for at least 10 minutes.

You can repeat the process until you get the best result. Once you remove the jewelry from the mixture, make sure to rinse it and wipe off the water.

This method is incredibly affordable and you can use it whenever you want. You will be amazed by the results because your old and boring jewelry will sparkle and shine like new. Isn’t that cool?

2. Clean your grill

I am spending a lot of time in the kitchen. I love cooking for my family. But, by far, one of the most annoying things to do is clean the grill after I use it. I totally hate it. I tried a lot of products but I feel like nothing really works.

As you already know, grill grates can collect a lot of charred grease and food. The best is to clean the grill immediately after you use it, but in reality, there are times when we are simply tired or have other more important things to do, and forget to clean it. Well, don’t worry! The method I am about to share works incredibly fine, no matter how many days have passed from your yummy meal.

All you need to do is turn on your grill. The high temperature will loosen the cooked-on debris. Then, use a wad of aluminum foil in the same way you would use a grill brush. Be careful to not burn your hands while you are doing it.

3. Keep birds out of your fruit trees

If you have a garden with trees, trust me, this is a life-changing trick. I know that it takes years to grow beautiful trees and the last thing any gardener wants to see are nibbled leaves or pecked fruit. You can easily repel these garden pests. All you need to do is hand some aluminum strips from the branches.

My advice would be to cut two three-inch-wide strips. Wrap one end of the foil around the branch and let the other end hang. Birds hate that metallic finish and the noise it makes. Plus, it will reflect light and keep away all those unwanted guests.

4. Keep celery firm

Usually, it becomes really frustrating to keep celery in the refrigerator. Unfortunately, it turns to rubber really fast, and let’s be honest no one loves limp celery. You can prevent this, can tossing the plastic sleeve your celery comes in and wrapping it with aluminum foil. This way, you’ll keep moisture locked in and the celery will resist significantly longer. Have you ever tried this hack?

5. Add to ironing board

Oh, you can’t really understand how much I got to love aluminum foil after I discovered all these hacks. I hope you’ll try at least a part of them because they are truly life-changing. While a lot of websites and articles are trying to trick you with a lot of unrealistic secrets, I am here to help you make your life easier. Using affordable and smarter ways in the household is incredibly satisfying.

Did you know that you can actually speed up the ironing process by placing aluminum foil over your ironing board? Yeah, at first I couldn’t believe it either. Aluminum is a conductor of heat, so when you use your iron over your clothing item, it will receive heat from both sides. The wrinkle-removal process will be incredibly fast.

We all know how many challenges we have to face daily and how important it is to save some time. So, I’ve got you covered. You’ll no longer need to change your outfit options just because you are too busy to remove those annoying wrinkles.

6. Make creative cake shapes

I stopped buying expensive cake pans about three years ago and I couldn’t be happier. All those holiday pans used to be very tempting for me, and I ended up buying them almost all the time. I spent a lot of money on things I didn’t use enough. So, since I discovered that I can easily turn aluminum foil into my best friend, my life has changed.

I always add a double layer of foil and then manipulate it into the shape I desire, for example, I love hearts. Once I am done sculpting, I place the result inside a cake pan, then fill the doil up with batter and bake!

7. Improve your scissors

Sounds funny? Well, trust me, aluminum can do magic. We all know how fast kitchen scissors start to dull, so the simplest cut becomes extremely annoying. I was surprised to find out that aluminum foil works incredibly well and can significantly improve the cutting performance of scissors.

Start by cutting the foil into strips, but make sure to do your best and use the full length of the scissors and improve how they cut. This way, you’ll remove any tarnish from the scissors and instantly improve how they cut.

However, if the hack doesn’t properly work, maybe it’s time to buy new ones.

Here is one of the best aluminum foils I’ve tried so far and I totally recommend it. The product can be found on Amazon and has great reviews. Check it out!

I have used the foil for celery hack and the scissors sharpening hack. The celery one is fantastic! Wrap the celery in a layer of paper towels first, then the aluminum foil. The celery is as crispy after a couple of weeks as it was the day it went in. I’m a believer. The scissors is a good one, but if they don’t sharpen as you like, a friend told me to “cut” a drinking glass. That seems to work a bit better.
