10 DIY Home Improvement Jobs Better Left to the Pros

Malfunctioning sink pipes

Having issues with your sink, and you need to get the water flowing again? It’s clear that the pipe under the sink is the culprit, isn’t it? All you need is a wrench and bucket to get that hairy clog out, right? Well, think again.

Plumbers say that dismantling pipes can be risky business unless you know where the problem is. Pipes are complex and tough to reassemble, especially near other plumbing machinery and components, like dishwashers and garbage disposals.

Even if you’re confident the obstruction is under the sink, if you don’t have prior experience with this DIY home improvement job, you’re better off leaving it to a plumber.

Tree removal

Trees that have been damaged by harsh weather or died can threaten your car and home. And removing trees is a job for a certified arborist or similar expert because it’s dangerous work. If you want to see proof, just go to YouTube and look up “tree cutting gone wrong.”

The tools used to remove trees are hazardous, not least the ladder. Over 300 people die, and 500,000 are injured using ladders yearly in the US, says the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.

Arborists use tree cranes to get all the way up there, they carry insurance to protect property from falling branches, and they know the art of pruning. So we can safely say this DIY home improvement job is best left to the experts!
