…Do you like taking family photos?

There are people who like to keep their family photos on their smartphones, but others prefer to turn them into little pieces of art. It’s not an exaggeration, because at the end of the day, family is something that is yours, and that’s pure, right?

Well, let’s stop being cheesy for a second and actually come up with a solution on how to make your house prettier and more welcoming, and also show your family how much you love them at the same time.

Speaking of that, when was the last time you designed a space without including a gallery wall? It’s the ultimate design statement for turning any boring wall into a work of art in seconds (I told you that it’s nice).

If you don’t believe me, open your social media accounts and see for yourself. With over 1.6 million hashtags, it’s easy to see how popular this feature wall concept is on Instagram.

A photo wall might convey more emotion than any other kind of wall decor, whether it’s filled with pictures of your loved ones, breathtaking landscapes, or motivational sayings. But in today’s article, we’ll talk about all the ways you can display your beloved family photos in every room at home.

Whether you’re looking for a new way to decorate your living room or want to get inventive, it’s easy to add your own unique style to any space with the help of a photo wall. It doesn’t matter where you put it; all you need is a blank wall and some thought (along with a hammer and nails, of course).

1. Behind the couch

The wall above the couch is the natural focal point of most living room designs, so here is where you should anchor your gallery wall concept. Aside from that, the living room is the room in your house where you spend the majority of your time, so it’s natural that it’s the best place to display family photos.

When hanging pictures, it’s best to have the focal point just at the viewer’s height. Picture frames and paintings should be displayed at around eye level in living rooms and dining rooms, where people spend most of their time seated. The ideal height is about the breadth of one hand above a couch.

2. Hallway

What do you think about going home the first thing you notice when you walk in the door is the lovely family photos you’ve carefully hung on the wall?

You can create an impressive 1st impression by hanging a gallery wall in your entryway. This is also perfect if you don’t have a big hallway, so you can’t put a small table there because it will make the room appear cluttered.

But a gallery wall with some pretty pictures will add interest to the design without any unneeded clutter. But how do you go about organizing a floor plan?

Here’s the thing: in the past, there were people who used to prepare paper templates of the frames and affix them to the walls with blue tack. You can do that too, which means that you’ll have no trouble determining where to place the fasteners, and the end result will be spectacular.

3. Layout

When it comes to family photos or any other types of pictures displayed around the house, the layout is the element that is going to make or break the overall look. Frames in a charming selection provide color and character to an otherwise stark corridor.

You can opt for a classic layout, where there’s equal distance from one photo to another, or you can go all out and create a layout of your own, without respecting a specific rule.

If you choose the 2nd option, the arrangement is purposefully made to seem careless, but if someone looks carefully and pays enough attention, they’ll notice that everything is well-considered, which means that the room’s many diverse shapes and sizes complement one another. The uniformity of the design is guaranteed by the matching frames, which come in plenty of sizes, but trust me, the results are nonetheless visually harmonious.

We’ve talked to a few experts about this topic and they’ve told us that you can use a range of sizes when decorating a huge gallery wall to pull attention across you arrangement.

If this is the style you’re going for, don’t attempt to replicate it by combining 2 portrait A3 prints or anything else of the same size. Keep the bigger frames in the middle, and use about a quarter of the screen for your brighter color work: this will create the illusion of unity and sophistication.

4. The rule of 3

Even if you don’t want to hang family photos around the house, you should still consider displaying different types of pictures, because the results are stunning.

The rule of 3 is a common tool used by stylists and designers to create harmonious compositions. This principle states that groups of 3 or more items seem more natural and complementary than groups of 2 or 4.

This might be done with everything from fixtures and appliances to colors and materials to decorative accents and even creative lighting for the kitchen. Pictures should be hung horizontally in groups of 3, with a consistent amount of space between them, for maximum impact.

Using a combination of yellow and gray (aka the colors chosen by Pantone in 2021—still a marvelous combination, if you ask me), this paint scheme for the living room visually divides the space in half, drawing attention to the framed art collection.

5. Bathroom

The living room and bedroom aren’t the only places to use the gallery wall concept; the bathroom might be the perfect place to add some character and personality.

For me, to be honest, hanging family photos in the bathroom is not a good idea, but if you don’t mind seeing your family everywhere you go, go for it.

However, if you’re like me, you can easily skip the idea of family photos and choose something neutral instead. A blank wall in the bathroom begs to be covered with something, whether it’s a collection of pictures or a carefully arranged gallery wall of mirrors and artwork.

Experts recommend using a variety of materials on a gallery wall to offer diversity and show off your attention to detail. As long as the whole thing flows together, feel free to mix and match elements.

Using different kinds of materials adds depth, and using mirrors and other things that reflect light in the right way could help visually divide and expand large floor plans.

6. Abstract

Nowadays, it appears that all types of design must have a meaning and tell a story. But this project is yours, and you’re the one who wants to be happy when you see it, so go ahead and do everything that you want.

And I have an idea for you. What do you think about something that is more daring, a little less restrictive, and more creative? A corkboard with a collection of pictures, postcards, and other mementos makes for a creative, unstructured gallery wall.

You can use colorful pins or beautiful washi tape to add a touch of style when hanging the photos. Washi tape’s nondestructive nature allows you to use this method even on freshly painted walls to safely mount your pictures. Ideal for someone who is trendy or does not want to follow the rules.

7. Picture ledge

A picture ledge provides greater flexibility than a mounted gallery wall with wall holes, allowing you to swap out artwork as often as you choose. This is perfect if you have a lot of family photos and can’t decide which ones to frame or not. Try a staggered arrangement on a small picture shelf to show off a collection of artwork and family photos you’ve collected over the years.

If you have several images of varying sizes, you can easily display them all together if you use frames of the same color or mounts of the same style. To avoid any gaps, you should begin with the biggest frames and work your way down to the smallest, overlapping as you go.

8. Hang your pics

Are you sick of putting your favorite family photos in coordinated frames? I can help you out with that, because I have an amazing idea. This alternate way of hanging a gallery wall, in which frames are hung from a peg rail, is great for rooms that cannot have plugs or nails installed.

It looks stylish, modern, and daring, and it looks perfect in all the rooms in your house. It’s a great decor item for your bedroom, living room, garage, and even your attic. Try it out!
