7. Birthday cards
I totally understand that you might find it awkward to toss a birthday card, especially if it was sent to you by a loved one. These items are memories, and you want to hold on to them for as long as possible. But that’s not the best idea.
As you get older, though, you begin to understand that the people you care about most in the world aren’t captured in the physical objects they bring you. Even if you throw away that box of birthday cards you haven’t opened since… well, your birthday, they’ll never leave your mind or heart.
If you’re still on the fence about why you should do something like this, you can take a picture with your phone and keep your cards in digital form. This way, you won’t have clutter in your home, and you’ll also have the cards they gave you.
