…Would you like to have a home bar?

You probably like going out and enjoying a few drinks at the bar because it’s nice and fun to get out of the house, check out the world, dress elegantly, and sip on your favorite drink with the people you love.

As fun as it is to have a good time at the bar, the sad thing is that it’s a lot more expensive than it would be if you were to drink at home. I know that the atmosphere won’t be the same, but what if I told you that you could build your dream bar right in your own home?

This is a great investment since it can increase the value of your house and serve as a convenient gathering place for friends and family. You might say that is expensive, but if you really think about it, you’ll actually save more money in the end.

Having a well-stocked home bar creates the ideal setting for relaxing with a glass of your favorite drink. And when the festive season is near, your friends and family will be more than happy to come over.

1. Choose a good spot

1st things 1st, you need to begin by choosing a suitable place in your home to build your desired cocktail lounge. It can be as small as a nook in the kitchen or as large as a whole room.

If you were blessed with a generous living room, you could even turn part of it into a sophisticated small pub. And if you’re limited on square footage, don’t rule out the potential of oddly shaped areas like alcoves and corners.

A home bar might be built inside a summerhouse or as an addition to your home if you have enough space in your backyard. This is a more significant financial commitment, but it was shown to add the greatest value to a house, so it might be well worth it if you take care to design a place that can be used throughout the year.

In the winter, for example, a wood stove or fireplace might make the room seem like a warm and inviting ski lodge, while in the summer, bi-fold or French doors can transform the space into the perfect bar for outdoor gatherings.

2. Think of your signature drink

You might say that’s a bit weird to think about your favorite drink when you want to build the bar of your dreams, but it’s a great idea, and I’ll tell you why. I suggest basing your design on your preferred drink to make it a place you’ll like spending time in.

Whiskey fans might like a more traditional or rustic look, with dark woods, velvet, and old whisky ads. It’s a nice touch, and it will help blend all the elements together, creating a stylish and classical cocktail lounge you’ll love ending your nights in.

You could even design a speakeasy in the style of the 1920s if you like champagne and old-fashioned drinks. Any design you choose for your bar must reflect your preferences and the beverages you want to serve.

3. Choose high-quality materials

Once you’ve settled on a theme, you can begin planning the furnishings and accessories that will go into your new space. Again, starting with your favorite drink will make sure you have everything you need to make the best cocktails.

Whisky fans, for example, should put things like wall-mounted dispensers, decanters, and temperature-controlled storage for their favorite vintage drams in their bars.

Amateur mixologists who take their craft seriously require access to professional-grade cocktail mixing equipment, as well as a variety of specialty glasses suitable for both long and short servings. If you have the room and you want to wow your visitors, a juicer and an ice machine can make your drinks taste even better.

The newest must-have item for those who love wine is a compact dispenser. This allows you to enjoy your favorite vintages by the glass for weeks to come and keeps them at the ideal serving temperature.

4. Ambiance is key

If you want to build the bar of your dreams and turn it into the focal point of your house, you should choose high-quality items, like chairs and a table. It’s an investment, and you surely don’t want to sacrifice comfort and condition. If you choose items that aren’t durable, you’ll risk purchasing new ones in the future, which means both money and time wasted.

You should make an effort to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere in your home bar. Make sure to provide your visitors with plenty of soft and relaxing seating.

Chesterfield couches and armchairs are a traditional furniture option for a home bar since they are both comfy and fashionable. You can also impress your visitors by having somewhere to set their beverages, so invest in a couple of small tables or trays; it’s never a bad idea.

As with everything in life, lighting is one of the most important things. So the right one can have a major impact on the ambiance of your home bar. Choose some that can be dimmed to your liking to create the perfect ambiance. A bespoke neon light with your name or initials can be an elegant finishing touch. And we know that neon lights are now all the rage.

Last but not least, consider adding a few eccentric accessories to show off your personal style. You can’t go wrong with a trendy accessory like a disco ball, an antique globe, or some repurposed signage. An old-school arcade game is a fun addition, so now’s the perfect time to be creative and turn your wildest dreams into reality.

5. Ingredients shopping list

Now that we’ve covered all the things you want to keep in mind when creating the perfect cocktail lounge, it’s time to think about 1 of the most important things: ingredients. How are you going to make those delicious drinks without the proper tools? It’s time to go shopping!

To ensure that you can satisfy the needs of all of your visitors, it’s a good idea to stock your bar with not just your personal favorites but also the components for the most common cocktails. Here’s a list that might help you:

  • There are many popular mixed drinks that need some white rum to be delicious. These include mojito, pina colada, and daiquiri;
  • Rum punch, zombies, and dark and stormy drinks are incredibly delicious with a bit of dark rum;
  • Whisky is the main ingredient in classic cocktails including the Old Fashioned, Whiskey Sour, and Manhattan. If you want to be fancy, give them a try;
  • Vodka is an important part of many beloved and famous cocktails, including the Cosmopolitan, Moscow Mule, Espresso Martini, Bloody Mary, and Vodka Martini;
  • Gin: in addition to being the foundation of the universal G&T (which we definitely enjoy drinking from time to time), gin serves as an ingredient in a wide variety of spritz-style cocktails. Some of these include the Hugo and the perennial favorite, the Negroni;
  • If you want to be a bit fancy, you should know that a wide variety of cocktails can be made using plenty of sweet liqueurs, such as amaretto, elderflower, and coffee liqueur;
  • Aperitifs and bitters: Angostura bitters, along with other aperitifs like Campari and vermouth, can easily be used to intensify flavors and create a tastier overall drink;
  • Countless cocktails and highballs call for mixers like soda water or tonic, so make sure you have those in your bar;
  • Syrups: because numerous alcoholic beverages need them for flavor and sweetness. Whiskey sours, mojitos, and many more are just a few examples;
  • Citrus fruits like limes and lemons should be a bar staple. If you want to take it up a notch and make it even more special, I recommend buying some frozen berries and mint leaves. They make every drink fresh, sweet, but not too much, and incredibly tasty.

…These simple tips will help you design a luxurious home bar that will serve as the ideal location for holiday gatherings and intimate evenings. You’ll see that your guests will choose your space to gather and chit-chat, and the atmosphere will be nicer compared to a night out.
