5. Signs of nesting
Rats, mice, and other rodents are known to make nests out of virtually whatever is available to them, including scraps of fabric, grass clippings, leaves, or shredded paper. They also build their nests in the areas of the house where they have taken up residence.
If you’ve noticed one or several signs of a pest infestation, chances are there’s also a nest somewhere around your house, so look carefully for it. Search the small, hidden crannies and nooks in your house with a flashlight.
Common areas where mice and rats build their nests include inside drawers and cabinets, behind couches and other large furniture items, behind kitchen or laundry appliances, in sheds and barns, and other dark, small, and hidden areas.
